What are the most pressing issues facing the HVACR industry today?

Jordan Smith, executive director of globalFACT, engaged in conversations with a diverse set of industry experts at the Food Marketing Institute’s Energy and Store Development Conference earlier this year. You can listen to their discussions in the latest episode of the globalFACT Forum Podcast.

Here’s a sneak peek at what they had to say:

Rajan Rajendran from Emerson: “[N]ot many people are moving into becoming technicians and the few people that are in the technician role, they all need to be retrained. And so we’ve got this almost like a perfect storm of all kinds of things happening.”

John Withouse from Sporlan Division: “[W]hen we look at GWP, we typically think of the direct impact of GWP on the environment, but we also have to be very cognizant of the indirect impact of energy usage. That’s certainly a big concern as well because typically most systems you look at, if we look at over the lifecycle of the system, the amount of energy they use has a much higher overall environmental impact than the direct GWP of the refrigerant that goes in them.”

Massoud Neshan from Southern CaseArts: “[I]t would be great we have [zero GWP], you know? But it’s not practical. If you could use ammonia… we would have used ammonia left and right, but it’s not practical in the market that we serve.”
