“A hydrocarbon refrigerant in the air conditioning system of a truck is thought to be the cause of an explosion… [I]nitial findings are said to indicate that the truck’s air conditioning system was charged with a refrigerant containing propane and isobutane that had originally been designed for R134a.”

US President Joe Biden has today issued an executive order seeking the US Senate’s consent to ratify the Kigali Amendment to phase down HFC refrigerants. The Kigali commitment is one of wide-ranging executive actions to tackle the climate crisis announced by the new president.
