Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Tesco Extra at the Ellesmere shopping centre in Walkden at just after 3pm following reports of a loud bang and smoke billowing from the refrigeration section. Eight people were treated for minor injuries such as smoke inhalation and shock after a pipe feeding a refrigeration unit burst, with six taken to Hope Hospital in Salford as a precaution, an ambulance service spokeswoman said.
