A recent study by Colorado State University examined the impact of HFO degradation and found that fluorinated low-GWP refrigerants are safe, long-term refrigerant solutions.
In fact, the study found that even when projecting the highest levels of HFO usage through the year 2040, TFA concentrations in rainwater were well below the level needed to cause any observable effect on human and ecosystem health.
What does this mean for end-users? At a time when proponents of so-called “natural” refrigerants are trying to push end-users away from low-GWP HFC and HFO solutions, this research provides reassurance to the industry: Advanced Climate Technologies—including low-GWP HFCs, HFOs, and blends—are safe and reliable solutions for the long term.
